Barbie Live: A Dream Come True

What's almost always pink and sparkling?  Well, for me that would only mean Barbie, the fashion icon doll that has been a little girl's dream toy since the 1960s.  After a successful conquering of the globe with various versions of Barbie, now comes "Barbie Live! The Musical."

This Christmas season, Barbie lovers will be treated to a musical theatrical show that will bring the famous doll characters Barbie, Ken (Barbie's love interest) and Teresa (Barbie's best friend) to life.  "Barbie Live! The Musical" is set on a Hollywood sound stage and follows Barbie with Teresa on the set of their new film as Barbie reminisces on the lessons learned from her past movies like Swan Lake, Princess & the Popstar, and Mariposa & Fairy Princess in trying to help Teresa gain back her confidence and strengthen their friendship.

A cast of 19 singers and dancers, led by Chelsea Bernier (Barbie), Kristina Miller (Teresa) and Randy Dierkes (Ken), will be donning stunning costumes for their high energy numbers that kids and adults will relate to and enjoy.

Black Eyed Peas Live in Manila 2011

Come one, come all! Black Eyed Peas will be in Manila on October 25 for a concert at the SM Mall of Asia Concert Grounds. A little birdie told me that this could be one of the last (if not the last) shows of the multi-awarded hip-hop group to give way to female vocals Fergie's wish to have a baby (she has been married to Transformers hunk Josh Duhamel since early 2009). Who knows when will their reunion concert be and when will they come back in Manila?

Block off that Friday as will.i.am (William Adams), apl.de.ap (Allan Pineda), Taboo (Jaime Gomez) and Fergie (Stacy Ann Ferguson) will be performing songs such as “Let’s Get It Started,” “Boom Boom Pow," “Don’t Stop the Party,” and “The Time-Dirty Bit.” I hope that they will also perform favorite hits such as “My Humps,” “I Gotta Feeling,” “Don’t Phunk With My Heart,” and “Meet Me Halfway,” among others.

Futuretainment and Music Management International, which brought Bruno Mars, Maroon 5, Miley Cyrus and Thirty Seconds to Mars in Manila, are responsible for this much awaited event on October.

Black Eyed Peas Live in Manila Ticket Prices:

VIP A 10,000
VIP B 8,000
GOLD 6,000
SILVER 3,000
BRONZE 1,000

Walk The World

Poverty and hunger, most specifically in the Philippines, has been in existence ever since I became socially conscious. My everyday street scene won’t be complete without street children, oftentimes barefoot, approaching me or knocking on the car window for alms.

It is said that the children are the future, but what does the future hold for them when they barely survive the present? What will their young minds learn, if they are sent to schools at all, when their bodies are not nourished enough? What can we, as ordinary citizens, do to help fight hunger and malnutrition?

Hunger and malnutrition are the biggest threats to global health worldwide, and are responsible for a third of all deaths in children under the age of five in the developing world.

Now, we have our chance to join thousands of people around the globe as they prepare to join the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) and its major corporate partners, TNT, Unilever and DSM, in a huge endeavor to raise awareness and money to feed hungry children in some of the poorest countries in the world.

WFP and its partners are passionate about taking action on this important issue and believe that everyone can help by joining Walk the World Pilipinas as a step towards ending hunger.

WHERE: SM Mall of Asia, IMAX Parking lot

WHEN: May 29, 2011, Sunday, 5:00-10:00AM

Set to be bigger than the previous years, this year’s Walk the World, is open to walkers and runners who are passionate about fighting hunger. Aside from the traditional 2-km walk, there will be a 5-km run for enthusiasts, both male and female, and a competitive 10-km group run.

Join Walk the World Pilipinas today -- it costs WFP just 10 pesos to provide a nutritious meal to a child at school. School feeding programmes also give parents an extra incentive to keep their children in school, and help to lay a healthy foundation for a better future for the young.

If you can’t join the walk in person, you can still get involved at http://wfp.org/walktheworld with photos, videos and donations. Or better yet, help spread the word and your family, friends and colleagues to join.

Justin Bieber in Manila

Gone were the days when a child’s life is simple…no video games, no high-tech gadgets and no singing idol to go head-over-heels with. Kids nowadays wish for the latest mobile phones, laptops or tablets and concert tickets to see the likes of Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift and Justin Bieber.

The Beliebers :)

If there was a Justin Bieber back when I was younger, I think my parents would disown me if I asked them to buy me a VIP ticket (LOL) and be one of the screaming fans lined up at the gates just to catch a glimpse of the YouTube singing sensation.

Concert poster

May 10 was the big night for Justin Bieber’s throves of fans at the SM MOA open concert grounds for the “Justin Bieber. My World Tour” in Manila, where a number of fans dressed up in the Bieber’s trademark color -- purple. The pop star may have felt a bit under the weather due to lack of rest from the Singapore leg, thus reports of a short concert and abrupt exit, less than 100% voice quality and performance, not to mention videos of minor mishaps with the press and fans. But no matter what, the Beliebers love him just the same.

Poreotics performed at the Justin Bieber concert.

Justin in action.

So what is it about the Bieber that made young girls and boys Beliebers? Is it the musical prowess, or the cute face, or the famous bowl cut hair he sported until February this year?

Justin wore hints of his signature color -- purple.

For the uninitiated (non-Beliebers), the 17-year old Canadian pop star was discovered via a video uploaded in YouTube back in 2008 by Scooter Braun who went into a joint venture with Usher to launch Justine’s career. His debut single, "One Time", released worldwide in 2009, peaked in the top ten in Canada and charted in the top thirty in several international markets. His debut release, My World, soon followed and was eventually certified platinum in the United States. Justine Bieber became the first artist to have seven songs from a debut album chart on the Billboard Hot 100 and soon, he started getting nominated by award giving bodies and brought home quite a number of trophies.

Justin Bieber

I just hope Justin will be able to handle fame well and strive to be a good role model for the young generation, despite some bad publicity. I also hope his star does not fizzle out early like those that came before him.
